Slums, informal settlements, and other deprived areas are formed and experienced in very different ways within, and across, cities. The diverse expressions of deprivation across cities is why none of the current "slum" mapping approaches is particularlly accurate across cities (read more).

We hope to change this in the IDEAMAPS Network by incorporating diverse stakeholders, and their perspectives, throughout the mapping the process. This 20-minute anonymous survey is one way that you can contribute to new, innovative methods to map slums and informal settlements routinely and accurately at scale.

This survey is based on a systematic literature review and draft framework of key Domains of Deprivation in low- and middle-income country cities (read more). We will use the hundreds (hopefully!) of responses to identify types of indicators and specific datasets that are most likely to predict the locations and key characterstics of deprived areas in a given city. Please submit one survey for each city that you are familiar with, and encourage your friends and colleagues to contribute by retweeting.
